River search Reported sighting of a man in the Rhine

BONN · The fire department and police were dispatched to the Rhine River at Oberkassel on Thursday morning, having received reports of a man in the river. On the riverbank, they found clothing.

Police and fire departments searched the Rhine River on Thursday morning with help from a helicopter unit. After an hour, the search was called off without any findings.

A police spokesperson told General Anzeiger that they had received a phone call saying a man had entered the river at around 10:10 am. According to unconfirmed information, the sighting had already taken place an hour earlier, at the riverbank in Oberkassel. The police spokesperson said emergency personnel went to the area of the sighting, but they found only clothing at the shore. The clothing, however disappeared a short time later.

Because of that, fire and rescue officials ended the search at around 11 am. The whole area between Oberkassel and Niederkassel had been searched. (Orig. text: Jens Kleinert)
