The last small tasks had to be finished, but the Marktgarage parking lot reopened right on schedule on Friday at 10am after a year of renovations. 279 parking spaces on three levels are available for customers now.

That’s less than the 350 spaces the car park had before, but the spaces are now wider, 2.50 meters instead of 2.20-2.35 meters - a response to the increasingly larger new car models. City centre visitors, coming from the South, will be very happy - for them the search for a parking space was very difficult over the past few months during the closure of the Marktgarage, because the university parking lot was so poor it needed renovating. Only in 2017 did revamping begun.

Under the market square, the customers of the Bonner City Parkraum (BCP) GmbH can avail of twelve women parking spaces, five parent-and-child parking spaces and five handicapped spaces. There are also four spaces for electric cars, with charging stations. Not only the concrete of the underground car park from 1968/1969 was redone, but also the ventilation system, the drainage system, the electrics and the fire protection systems.

Instead of a sprinkler system there were jet exhausts installed in cooperation with the fire brigade, which blow the smoke into certain areas and create smoke-free exits. Meanwhile the city council announced that the overground parking spaces at the train station won’t be accessible from Monday on due to construction work at the Nordfeld.
