Deadly accident Police investigate cause of Ferrari accident

Meckenheim · Witnesses are being interviewed and investigators are looking for a black Mercedes.

A 40-year-old man from Siegburg died when his car crashed on the A565 Monday afternoon. Police are trying to find out the exact cause of the accident. He was driving a Ferrari in the direction towards Bonn when it crashed through a rail guard and landed four meters below in the bushes, immediately catching fire. His passenger was able to escape the fire despite serious injuries but the man perished in the fire, trapped in the car. The passenger, a 24-year-old woman remains hospitalized.

Karlo Kreitz, spokesperson for the Autobahn Police Unit, told General Anzeiger on Tuesday that many witnesses have to be interviewed until they can determine for sure the cause of the accident. It could have been speeding, a technical defect or actions of another driver that caused the accident.

“The area we are investigating, where the accident occurred is over 100 meters long,” explained Kreitz. The District Attorney’s office in Bonn has also begun an investigation into the crash. Some witnesses told police the Ferrari had passed them on the autobahn at a very high speed.

In connection with the accident, police are looking for a black Mercedes. It is possibly an older model Mercedes A-Klasse and it supposed to have change lanes from the right to the left around the time of the accident.
