Attempted theft in Bonn Passers-by fail to help

BONN · Police are looking for witnesses in an attempted purse theft that took place Thursday morning at the central bus station in Bonn.

On Thursday morning at 9:15 a.m., a 57-year-old woman was waiting for a bus when an unknown woman came and tried to rip her purse off her shoulder. This caused her to fall to the ground. She had been waiting for a bus at the Bonn central bus station at the middle stop. Initial police reports say people in the area saw what was happening but did not try to help.

Even as the 57-year-old woman lay on the ground clutching her purse, the suspect tried to take it from her. She only retreated when the victim defended herself, kicking at the would be thief. The 57-year-old woman suffered slight injuries from the incident.

Police are asking for witnesses to come forward and for help in finding the suspect. She is described as:

  • around 1.6 meters tall
  • dark hair
  • very thin
  • wearing heavy make-up
  • wearing modern jeans of the worn-out look, and a black leather jacket
