City buses Passenger ignored by bus driver

BONN · Was it intentional or was it simply a misunderstanding? A passenger reports that a bus driver failed to wait for a would-be passenger to board the bus.

A bus driver from Line 605 allegedly failed to pick up a passenger who waited at the stop on Heerstraße. At least that is how a GA reader experienced it. The “small and elderly dark-skinned man” apparently wanted to climb on board.

“When the driver didn’t open the door, I was sitting directly behind him and I made him aware that someone wanted to come on board. In response, the driver said: Oh well, when he’s so slow...”. On inquiry, the city public works (SWB) said that the driver could recall the situation. “He didn’t have the impression, however, that the man waiting at the Heerstraße stop wanted to board the bus.

If our driver did not interpret this correctly, then we apologize for the situation,” said SWB spokesperson Werner Schui. There can be some misunderstandings during the daily transportation services. These can also occur when passengers are not recognizable as passengers because they are talking on their phone or reading. And sometimes, they are in the blind spot of the driver and not seen. According to Schui, city bus drivers cover 40,000 kilometers a day on the streets of Bonn.

With some 90,000 stops daily, there is an average of one complaint every day. “The fact that we have been able to keep the flow of complaints at a steady and low rate for years is proof for us that communication between drivers and passengers actually functions very well,” said the spokesperson.
