University of Bonn Open house on Wednesday

Bonn · For those who want to peek inside the historical University of Bonn in the city center, Open House Day gives you a chance to come inside.

Many universities and colleges in Germany hold open house days on a regular basis. They allow potential students or other interested persons to gain an initial impression of the academic environment, find out what can be studied at each institution, and talk directly to staff and students on each campus.

On Wednesday, the University of Bonn will open it’s doors to the public; anyone can attend a lecture, giving them a chance to look inside the long and imposing historical building in the middle of the city.

An entire schedule of lectures, programs and locations can be found online at: https://www.uni-bonn.de/studium/studium-universale/dies-academicus/dies-zeitung-25.05.2016

While the lectures appear overwhelmingly in German, doctorate students from the Institute of Oriental and Asian studies present their work in English before a panel from 2 - 5 p.m. in Hörsaal IV (Lecture room IV). Their work could make for a very informative and interesting afternoon:

2 p.m. Maryam Aras (Islamic Studies) Singing for the System – the Politics of madh in the Islamic Republic of Iran

2:30 p.m. Leila Ahmadi (Islamic Studies) The forms and motives of practicing religious rituals in Qajar Iran (1794-1925)

3 p.m. Düzgün Arlsantas (Islamic Studies) Clientelism and Islam: The Emergence of the Dominant Party System in Turkey

3:30 p.m. Eva Maria Seidel (Asian and Islamic Art History) Recalling the past of a collection – The collection Werner Schulemann in the Museum of East Asian Art, Cologne.
