GA English on Easter Monday News, weather and more from Bonn and the region

Bonn/Region · The news on Easter Monday: 500 participants marched for peace during the Easter demonstration in Bonn, the CDU in Rheinbach is annoyed by the train delays of the Voreifelbahn, we have got the latest weather news for you and a different kind of April Fool’s story: A man reported his car stolen, which he obviously forgot to drive home from a filling station - drunk.

March for peace sees 500 participants

Bonn. The wars in the Middle East, the growing tensions between Russia and NATO - many people are worried about peace at the moment. In Bonn, 500 people marched in Bonn to show their concern. They walked from the Friedrich-Breuer-Straße to the Kennedy bridge and from there to the Friedensplatz. „The entire event progressed very peacefully“, said a police spokesperson. Hundreds of participants also took part in other traditional Easter marches around North Rhine-Westphalia against war and for disarmament.

The marches are considerably smaller than at the beginning of the peace movement in the 1980s. But the regional manager of the German Peace Society, Joachim Schramm, said: „These are not nostalgic meetings, the world is standing on the brink of the abyss.“ Particularly the East-West conflict is returning. In Dülmen and Hamm, there are also marches planned for Easter Monday, plus a cycling tour for peace in Krefeld.

CDU in Rheinbach annoyed by Voreifelbahn delays

Rheinbach. Many commuters are upset by the delays of the Voreifelbahn S23 between Bonn and Euskirchen recently. The CDU in Rheinbach tried to find out, why. The commute disruptions are having an effect on the number of available wagons, said Klaus Beer, spokesperson of the CDU fraction in Rheinbach’s city council. „Instead of five wagons, often there are only two - leading to hopelessly overcrowded trains.“ Many passengers were left behind on the platforms.

„An intolerable situation“, said CDU councillor Axel Wilcke. The Deutsche Bahn informed the CDU that several accidents and urgent construction works have caused the limited availability of wagons, or, how the Deutsche Bahn calls it, the „deviation from the scheduled train structure“. Apparently, maintenance and parts suppliers are working hard to find a solution as soon as possible.

Spring is upon us, after the rain on Easter Monday

Bonn. After the Easter period with scattered showers, mild temperatures can be expected during the week. A proper spring weekend is upon us here in the next few days. While the Easter Egg searches were literally a „rain-off“ in Bonn and the region, and there was even some icy roads in places, the temperatures will rise to about 16 degrees, but with no sunshine and a lot of rain.

The wellies will be well in use until Thursday. But next weekend will bring with it a springtime feelings all around: Friday will already be warm with temperatures of 17 degrees, and on Sunday, up to 23 degrees are expected. We might all be able to swap the wellies for the sunglasses then - yay! Original text: GATranslation: MG

Man reports his car as stolen - which he forgot while being drunk

Neuwied. A different kind of April Fool’s story: A 59-year-old man from Neuwied reported his car as stolen on Saturday night. The police found his vehicle a short time later at a filling station after the owner had left it behind there.

The man was drunk at the time, a blood sample was taken and his license confiscated. The police report read, deadpan: „He got his car back, but he won’t be allowed to drive it anymore.“
