Bonn · A new restaurant opens Friday and a large demonstration is planned for Thursday. Two suspects are sought, a fallen tree blocks commuters and police arrest a thief at the train station.

On Friday, a new restaurant and cafe´ called “Nees” will open its doors in the Remise at Poppelsdorf Palace. On Tuesday, there was a trial run to make sure everything would go smoothly for the opening. New dishes were tried by kitchen staff and the menu was fine-tuned. The Remise building had stood empty since 2012 and recently underwent a year of renovations at a cost of two million euros. It will still take some time until the entrance into the botanic gardens is finished. Bonn architect Karl-Heinz Schommer and his daughter, Laura Schommer-Wolstein directed the renovations, while Munich designers Bele and Patrik Muff finished out the interior.

Viva Viktoria has planned a demonstration for Thursday in Bonn inner city. Organizers expect around 400 people, who will gather for a rally at 6 p.m. on Franziskanerstraße. From there, they will march to Belderberg, Rathausgasse, Markt, Remgiusstraße, Münsterplatz and to Poststraße where an interim rally is planned. They will then go on to Münsterplatz and other stops, ending at Franziskanerstraße. A final rally is planned there at 10 p.m. Police expect the demonstration to be peaceful but say there could be some short term traffic disruptions.

Two men were punched and kicked after leaving a concert on Friday in the Bonn Rheinaue at Charles-de-Gaulle-Straße. Police report that the scuffle occurred at around 10:05 p.m. near where the concert took place. A 29-year-old man had to be taken to the hospital for injuries. Police are searching for the attackers, described by witnesses as follows: a first man is 1.85 - 1.9 meters tall, muscular, tanned and had an undercut haircut. He was wearing a blue muscle shirt and long pants. A second man is 1.6 - 1.65 meters, also muscular, and 20 to 25 years-old. He had dark blonde, short hair, wore a gray muscle shirt and short, beige pants. Police ask anyone having information to please contact them at (0228) 1 50.

Commuters traveling between Wachtberg-Pech and Bad Godesberg on Tuesday morning were hindered by a fallen tree. County road 158 was cut off at around 7:42 a.m. in both directions when a tree near the intersection with Fuderbachsweg toppled on to the road. One car and one motorcycle were damaged but there were no injuries, according to police. The tree was removed and the road opened about one and half hours later.

Police arrested a 42-year-old man on Sunday evening for breaking into a car in Bonn inner city. At around 9 p.m., the man is reported to have smashed in a side window of a car parked on Riesstraße, and stolen a woman’s purse. Witnesses alarmed police, who found the suspect at the Hauptbahnhof (central train station). He was brought before a judge on Monday and put in detention.
