About 20 Employees of the Deutsche Post participated in Global Volunteer Day on Wednesday, working at Käthe-Stein-Haus, a youth home, to get the fence back into shape. They took half a vacation day to do their good deed, trading in the regular office wardrobe for outdoor work attire. Renate Lamoth, who organized the project, said it was their third time at the youth home. In the past years, they had done yard work. One of the youth living at the home, 9-year-old Marcel, joined the volunteers and said it was fun for him to work alongside them. Post workers had a grill party with the young residents after the work was done.

A man was held up at knife point and robbed in Mehlem at around 12:30 a.m. early Wednesday morning. The 23-year-old had just parked his car in an underground parking garage on Mainzer Straße when two persons came at him quickly, threatening him with a knife and club. After he gave the men his money, they fled in a car on Gunterstraße, the motor already running. This suggests there was a third person sitting behind the wheel. Witnesses say it could have been a black BMW. One suspect is described as around 25-years-old, 1.8 meters, and heavyset. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants and a dark scarf over his mouth and nose. The second is described as the same age and 1.75 meters. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt, dark trousers and white sneakers. Anyone having information is asked to contact police at (0228) 150.

Police are looking for a driver involved in a hit and run last Wednesday in Graurheindorf. A black car hit a 23-year-old pedestrian who was crossing Brungsgasse at around 5:30 p.m. near Buschdorfer Kirchweg. He suffered minor injuries. The car did not stop and witnesses report it was a male driver of a black station wagon. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (0228) 150.

Accidents on the 565 autobahn Thursday evening caused traffic to back up. Cologne police say lanes heading in the direction of Altenahr were affected. At around 6:30 p.m., just before the junction with Poppelsdorf, four cars were involved in rear end collisions. No one was injured. At around 6:50 p.m., there was a second accident between the junctions of Tannenbusch and Endenich. Again, there were no injuries reported. (Orig. text. Sdj, val, hbl, kjs)
