United Nations Volunteers New Executive Coordinator Olivier Adams welcomed

Bonn · Bonn’s Lord Mayor Ashok Sridharan officially welcomed Olivier Adam, the new Executive Coordinator of United Nations Volunteers (UNV) to Bonn on Wednesday. Adam was received by the Mayor in the city administration building.

In welcoming the new Executive Coordinator of UNV, Olivier Adam, Lord Mayor Sridharan said “UN Volunteers makes Bonn the center of volunteer engagement. From here in Bonn, the work of more than 19,000 UN volunteers is coordinated worldwide.” He wished the new UNV executive a good start in Bonn. Olivier Adam is from France and he replaces Richard Dictus of the Netherlands.

The new Executive Coordinator has served in a wide range of posts at the UN over the last 30 years. Adam said , “UNV has a unique mandate, as it offers people around the world the possibility to engage in volunteer work aimed at achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.” He thanked the Lord Mayor and the city of Bonn for their hospitality and said that Bonn, as a German city of the UN and host to many governmental and non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) in the field of sustainability, offers the possible best conditions for the work they do.

The Lord Mayor presented Olivier Adam with a Beethoven CD as a welcome gift. Adam’s previous position was UN Development Programme (UNDP) Deputy Regional Director and Deputy Assistant Administrator of the Regional Bureau for Europe (2012 - 2014). Among his other roles at the UN, he was Manager of the UNDP Bratislava Regional Centre (2012-2014) and UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine (2009-2012). Bonn is home to around 20 UN organizations with around 1,000 staff members. In addition, there are approximately 150 NGO’s in Bonn.
