Bonn-Kessenich · A forest worker was seriously injured on Monday afternoon in an area of forest in Kessenich near Venusberg. His shin was broken during clearance works.

During works in a forested area in Kessenich on Monday afternoon, part of a tree that was under tension hit a worker’s right shin. His shin was completely broken as a result, police told the GA.

The seriously injured worker, who according to police is 30 years old, has been admitted to hospital. The relatives of the injured man have been notified. Branches were being cut away and removed in the forest area.

After storm Friederike, the city had warned against entering the wood. Employees from the city’s forest warden’s office are currently scouring the forest for anything dangerous.

The timber harvest will also continue in the city forest until the end of February. The city wants to fell around 1500 to 2000 cubic metres of wood over an area of 45 to 50 hectares. This corresponds to several thousand trees.
