Visitors are in for a spectacular light display at the Drachenburg castle if they can get there in the next few weekends. Uwe Senkel has been leading the light production this year, taking over for light artist Wolfgang Flammersfeld who is ill. An impressive scene of “Castle Lights” has been created, outside on the castle grounds and buildings but also indoors. Sandra Dietz, a visitor to the castle exclaimed, “It’s beautiful like a fairytale; it’s like in Disneyland.”

LEDs, lights and projectors illuminate trees, paths and bushes and the castle itself. The architecture becomes a colorful painting-like picture and areas that normally linger in dark shadows come to light. For those who want to take photos, it is recommended to get there just as the daytime light is fading. It’s a photographer’s dream.

Magical-looking pastel colors give definition to the light installations. Besides the castle facade, parts of the park are lit up in colorful displays as well as some of the different rooms inside the castle. The motto for 2016 is “Elves and Fairies.” This past Friday was the premier but the castle lights will be on display weekends through March 6. Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Admission is 9 Euro for adults and kids from 6-years-old pay 4 Euros.
