Water level over six meters Light flooding at the Rhine

Bonn · The level of the Rhine River has risen in recent days. Currently, the Rhine is over six meters - the highest level this year.

The Rhine with its varying dimensions is always a topic for conversation in the city. Unmistakably, it’s volume has increased in recent days, after snowmelt and rain last week worked hand in hand to add depth. On Friday afternoon, the river level in Bonn reached 6.14 meters. This is the highest water level in 2017, according to former statistician of the city of Bonn, Klaus Kosack.

Recently, Bonn had an even higher water level during the June floods in the summer of 2016, when the peak on June 1 reached the mark of 6.28 meters. However, both levels are well below the critical mark of 9.30 meters water level. This was last exceeded more than two decades ago on January 30 of 1995 with 10.05 meters. Incidentally, the same maximum level for 2017 was also measured on April 23 of 1937 and on December 22 of 1989 (both monthly records) in Bonn.
