DHL Investigations in Bonn into DHL blackmailer

Bonn · As DHL is based in Bonn, police in the city are investigating. They are looking into the case of the blackmailer whose package led to the evacuation of the Christmas market in Potsdam.

The blackmail of the logistics company DHL with parcel bombs apparently started three months ago. Bonn police confirmed this when asked on Monday after the Spiegel magazine reported on it over the weekend. However, the AFP news agency caused confusion when, based on the Spiegel report, it wrote of a similar blackmail attempt “in Bonn.”

However, the reason Bonn police and the local public prosecutors’ office investigated the incident at the time is solely because DHL’s headquarters are in Bonn. According to General Anzeiger information, the investigations have not yet yielded any results and there are no further known cases. It is also unclear whether there is a connection to the current blackmail attempt against the parcel service – let alone whether the perpetrators are the same.

As reported, a package with a bomb was discovered in a Potsdam pharmacy on 1 December and made safe. According to information from the Brandenburg authorities, a blackmail attempt of DHL in the millions is behind the incident. The package in question was sent in Potsdam. Police said a shipment was sent from Berlin to Brandenburg in a similar case. At the start of November, a further package was also send to a company in Frankfurt/Oder but was destroyed when defused. As investigators are working on the basis of a regionally active perpetrator, the focus of the search is in the Berlin/Brandenburg area.

The DHL group did not expressly comment on a GA enquiry on Monday. Instead, a spokesman asked for understanding: “that against the background of the current blackmail attempt against our company we continue to be unable to provide any information in connection with the current investigation.” This also applies to: “speculation in the media about possible similar criminal activities in the past.”
