Mineral oil concentration IKEA pulls donuts from shelves

HOFHEIM · IKEA has stopped selling “B&B Pinky” donuts due to elevated concentrations of mineral oil in the product.

On Friday, a spokesperson from IKEA said their stores were pulling frozen donuts from their assortment because of test results found last week. The magazine “Öko-Test” had published results which revealed that “B&B Pinky” donuts from CSM Deutschland showed an elevated concentration of potentially harmful saturated mineral oil.

A spokesperson from the consumer organization Foodwatch put out a call on Friday for other retailers who sell the donuts to react quickly and pull them from their assortments. These include McDonald’s, Real and Le Crobag.

“Öko-Test” examined 15 different brands of donuts for its October edition. It tested the contents of the products. All of them received a rating of “unsatisfactory”. The magazine found “high” or “very high” concentrations in 11 of the 15 varieties tested. Saturated mineral oils can collect in the body and lead to organ damage. (Orig. text: dpa)
