The outdoor season kicks off Here’s where Bonn starts splashing

Beuel · On Friday, the Ennertbad in Beuel opens for the summer. So do the Hardtbergbad and the outdoor pool in Friesdorf.

The Caribbean starts in Beuel. „With parrots, monkeys, exotic birds on the buildings and the diving platform as well as a bar with the finest sandy beach you might be fooled into being in a holiday paradise“, says Jürgen Stoll, director of the Ennertbad.

All preparation for the new season was done in time. Here and in two other pools (Hardtberg and Friesdorf), the outdoor season kicks in on Friday. „We will open at 6.30am, right on time. And from the past few years we know that there will be some early-morning swimmers waiting impatiently for us to open the doors.“

This year the staff had to get rid of a lot of yellow pollen which landed all over the city. „I never experienced this before“, Stoll shakes his head, who worked for 20 years in the „Beueler Bütt“ and the Ennertbad. Not only the outdoor facilities needed some scrubbing, all the gutters and filters were blocked too. „The severe frost caused more broken tiles than usual too.“ And the pool got a new outside clock as well.

4,000 cubic meters of fresh water were poured into the pool, which has a temperature of about 20 degrees at the moment. If it does not get warmer, it might get heated to 21 degrees. „Ideal for swimming“, says the expert.

Five supervisors and two life guards will keep an eye on the swimmers. If necessary, more staff can be added on short notice. The team also includes to cashiers.

Please note that the Friesdorf will open at 1pm and not at 6.30am, because of last minute works that need to be done.

The Römerbad, the Melbbad and the pool in Rüngsdorf will open at the end of May.
