For many people from abroad this might sound unusual - but it is helpful to know how city council departments and the like open during the carnival times in February. The public authorities change their opening times between „Weiberfastnacht“, February 8 - the last Thursday before Ash Wednesday -, and „Veilchendienstag“, February 13 - the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. The city council and other authorities and institutions are open as follows:

Kunstmuseum Bonn: Open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday an „Veilchendienstag“ during the carnival weekend from 11am until 6pm. On „Weiberfastnacht“ (February 8) and „Rosenmontag“ (February 12) the museum is closed.

Stadtmuseum Bonn: This museum closes for the entire carnival week from Monday, February 5, until „Veilchendienstag“, February 13.

Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Haus: This institution closes for the entire carnival week from Monday, February 5, until „Veilchendienstag“, February 13.

Bonn Information: Opens on „Weiberfastnacht“ (February 8) from 10am until noon, on Friday (February 9) and „Veilchendienstag“ (February 13) from 10am until 6pm, on Saturday (February 10) and Sunday (February 11) from 10am until 2pm. On „Rosenmontag“ (February 12) the Bonn Information will remain closed, but reachable via phone at 0228/775000 from 10am until 2pm.

Citizen services of the council: The Stadthaus authorities are open for prearranged appointments between 8am and noon on „Weiberfastnacht“ (February 8) and Friday (February 9) from 8am until 1pm. The City Hall in Bad Godesberg keeps it Citizen Office (Bürgeramt) open on both dates as well, also for prearranged appointments only. On „Rosenmontag“ (February 12), all of the city council’s departments are closed.

City Archives and Historical Library: Open on „Weiberfastnacht“ (February 8) from 8am until noon. On Friday the normal opening hours are valid. On Saturday (February 10) and „Rosenmontag“ (February 12) the archives remain closed. „Veilchendienstag“ (February 13), everything will be back to normal.

Libraries: „Weiberfastnacht“ (February 8) and „Rosenmontag“ (February 12), all the facilities of the city’s library will be closed. On all the other days, the library keeps to its normal opening times.

International Meeting place: Opens on „Weiberfastnacht“ (February 8) from 9am until noon, Friday (February 9) from 9am until 7pm and „Veilchendienstag“ (February 13) from 9am until 9pm.

Swimming Pools: The Frankenbad opens on „Weiberfastnacht“ (February 8) from 6.30 am until 12.30 lunchtime, the Hardtbergbad opens from 6.30am until 8am only. On the Friday, Saturday and the „Veilchendienstag“ (February 13), the normal opening hours apply at all swimming pools. On Sunday and „Rosenmontag“ (February 12), the facilities are closed. The Beueler Bett will not open at all before the open air season starts.
