First snow in the Eifel

Ein Schneepflug räumt den ersten Schnee an der Hohen Acht von den Straßen.

On the Hohe Acht (High eight) in the Eifel, snowplows have already been on the job clearing the streets.

It seems the fall foliage was just at its peak. But in higher elevations not far from Bonn, snow is already at the doorstep.

Signs of winter in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland Pfalz: On the Hohe Acht (High eight) in the Eifel, snowplows have already been on the job clearing the streets. The Hohe Acht is the highest mountain of the Eifel mountains with an elevation of 747 meters. It’s not too far from Bonn, between Ahrweiler and Mayen-Koblenz in the neighboring state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

In the winter time, many Bonn families head out to the Eifel in search of sledding opportunities for the kids. But snow showers are also coming down on the naked tree branches throughout the Saarland.

It may not officially be winter but it sure looks like it.  Time to get the snow tires on the car if it hasn’t already been done - unless those all season radials are already in service.
