Accident in Bonn city center Fire and rescue workers free seriously injured 18-year-old

Bonn · Three teenagers were hurt in a car crash on Wesselstraße not far from Bonn’s Münster Cathedral in the inner city. On Tuesday evening, their car veered off the road and rammed several posts and a street sign.

Reports from the fire department say the 18-year-old driver of an Opel Astra suffered serious injuries in the crash. Because he was trapped, rescue workers didn’t want to risk further injury to him and removed the roof of the car to reach him.

In the car were also two passengers, 13- and 15-years-old. They suffered minor injuries and were also taken by ambulance to the hospital. Emergency workers who were on the scene could not say why the young man lost control of his car. Other vehicles were apparently not involved in the crash.

According to police, the car was coming from the direction of the university when it first hit the curb on Wesselstraße. The Opel Astra was thrown into a spin, hit five bollards, a road sign and billboard before landing in front of a store.

During the rescue operation, the road was closed off. Police have secured the car for further investigation into what could have caused the accident. Witnesses who may have observed the accident or are able to provide any information are asked to contact police at 0228150. (Orig. text: Marcel Dörsing, Jens Kleinert)
