Rear-end collision in Siegburg Father of sick baby tries to stop ambulance

Siegburg · Two people were injured in an accident on the B56 on Sunday evening when the father of a baby with breathing difficulties tried to stop an ambulance.

Siegburg. Late yesterday evening police were able to explain the cause of an accident involving three vehicles on the Siegburg bound carriageway of the B56. The accident happened shortly before 8pm about 400 metres before the junction with Zeithstraße. Police said a 33-year-old man from Siegburg-Schreck was driving with his wife and nine month old son towards Sankt Augustin. The parents were taking their son to the children’s hospital as he was suffering from severe breathing difficulties.

The 33-year-old overtook several cars when he saw an emergency services vehicle in front of him. Hoping to get immediate help for his son, the man overtook the van and then braked. The 21-year-old van driver also braked but a 43-year-old car driver from Siegburg, who was following her, did not brake in time. He drove into the stationary van and this then collided with the car in front.

The 43-year-old and 21-year-old were slightly injured in the crash. Another driver took the child and his mother to the children’s hospital. The baby’s condition improved late that evening and he was discharged from hospital with his mother. Emergency services also took the 33-year-old to hospital.

The badly damaged VW car was towed away. The other two cars could be driven away. The B56 towards Sankt Augustin was blocked for an hour because of the accident. (Original text: ga. Translated by Kate Carey)
