Volunteer opportunity English for young refugees

Bonn · Preparing young refugees for the German school system includes teaching them English. Volunteers are needed.

Do you have a little extra time and you want to give to the community in Bonn? Here is an opportunity for English speakers. The “Diakonische Werk”, which is a charitable organization of Protestant churches in Germany, is working together with the Integration Center of the City of Bonn on a project to support education of young refugees. They are looking for volunteers who have fun in teaching language.

Young refugees are placed into learning groups so they can be prepared for a future entry into regular German school classes. They receive instruction in German, but also in subjects such as Math, Biology and English. Here is where English speaking volunteers can help.

Teaching would be one-on-one, and volunteers would need to commit one to two hours a week, once or twice a week. Lena von Seggern is the coordinator and she expressed that she would be happy to receive an e-mail in English from non-German speakers. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact her at: lena.von-seggern@dw-bonn.de (0228) 228 08 75.
