Panama Open Air Festival Electric music fans dance at the Rheinaue

BONN · The Panama Open Air Festival kicked off on Friday afternoon in the Rheinaue Park under sunny skies. Around 20,000 visitors are expected to attend the festival this weekend.

Visitors, performers and workers at the Panama Open Air Festival on Friday afternoon all agree that the atmosphere leaves nothing to be desired. "I'm just arriving, but it's awesome. There’s a lot going on: great mood, great music, awesome weather, good facility." This is the first impression of Mike Luxen. The Belgian DJ, who has become well-known through a television reality show, will be performing on Saturday at 6pm on the Jägermeister Stage.

And many others agree with him: Tim Schönenberg, aka Phunk Junk also says it’s a good atmosphere. He is sitting in a camping chair on the lawn in the sun. In the tent behind him, his girlfriend is selling clothes, stickers and accessories. "Ideally homemade or fair trade." There are stands selling vegan food and natural products on the rather dry park lawn, as well as people selling glitter make-up or hula-hoops. Denise from "Hula the Hoop" also offers workshops. She is very satisfied with the event so far: "It's nice and cheerful here. Our arrival worked out well and we were always able to reach someone if we had questions.

29-year-old Sonja and her friend Peter also offer a workshop in the park: Under sunny skies, they do acro-yoga, a movement that is made up of acrobatics, yoga and Thai massage.

It’s the second time that there is also a camping area at the festival. "It's fine, but a bit small," says 22-year-old Sebastian from the Sauerland region. He said he hadn’t slept there yet so he couldn’t make a complete judgement but everything seemed calm and in good order. Alexander Habers (21) and his friends from Neu Ulm drove 478 kilometers to Bonn for the festival because they won tickets. The five young guys see it as a place to have a good time. 20-year-old Lea is also happy with the camping area. She and her friends cool off in a large inflatable paddling pool which they brought along. “We brought buckets and filled it up with water from the showers,” she said.

Paying in “Panama Dollars”

During the course of the afternoon, the area in front of the stages fills up quickly. The entrance queue gets longer. What’s new this year is that visitors pay with Panama Dollars. These are purchased with a smartphone, using the mobile payment option “Blue Code” and can be used on the festival grounds.

But once all the formalities are over, visitors can stroll around on festival grounds or go to the different stages. Happy people dance to the music under sunny skies. A few stand out with unusual outfits, like 20-year-old Jana with her inflatable flamingo. She is a convinced festival fan. "It took long to get in, but the music is cool. We are here for the first time - because of the musical acts and to celebrate our graduation. "
