London Deutsche Post outfits London police

Bonn · It may seem an unlikely combination but Deutsche Post is teaming up with the Metropolitan Police Service to provide London police with uniforms and equipment.

Deutsche Post DHL will make sure London police are looking good in the future. The German DHL, based in Bonn, announced a contract with the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) in London to provide them with uniforms and equipment. Under the new contract, DHL Supply Chain will design and deliver police uniforms and equipment. It is a seven-year contract to deliver a National Uniform Managed Service (NUMS) for the MPS and is the first contract of its kind in the logistics branch.

The new service is expected to create product improvements and generate significant cost savings for the MPS. Similar opportunities will be offered for other forces and public sector personnel throughout the U.K. In the past, individual police forces across the U.K. had procured their products separately. With the establishment of the NUMS, a nationwide end-to-end supply chain has been designed. Because of the resulting efficiency and consolidating when it comes to suppliers, costs can be reduced. The single platform also means collaboration can take place which is expected to bring improvement to products.

Paul Butcher of MPS explains, “While DHL is now delivering a real difference to the MPS, the benefits on a national scale will come through the adoption of additional forces or organizations, as well as the standardization of the new process.”

DHL has invested in a team of specialists who will work on design, with an eye to quality and functionality. Paul Richardson, Managing Director of Specialist Services at DHL Supply Chain, said “This solution proves that best practice private sector experience can be applied to the Public Sector to deliver real value - in this case both to the officers and the taxpayer.”
