May Day celebrations in Bonn and region Dance into May at these parties

Bonn · “Tanz in der Mai” (Dance into May) is an age-old tradition that is revived every year. Numerous parties and dance events invite you to join the the May Day fun. Here is an overview of where Dancing into May events are planned for Bonn and the region.

Dance into May is one of those many customs associated with the first of May. Some of these customs are sometimes so old that their exact origin can no longer be determined.

But all of Northern Europe is celebrating the beginning of spring at this time of year. The old Germans and Romans both took on the same tradition. May fires, which were then known as witches’ fires, were meant to drive out the spirits on Walpurgis Night. When the fire died down, young couples jumped over it together. The dance has been preserved until this day as a folk festival, but without the superstition.

Numerous events in the region invite you to Dance into May:

Zeughaus der Beueler Stadtsoldaten (Carnival organization): The women’s committee St.Paulus holds a “Tanz in der Mai” event on May 6. DJ Wolle (Norbert Aretz) will be on hand for the night. Cocktail bar and snacks. Tickets 9.90 euro in advance and 12 euro at the door. (Rheinaustraße under Kennedy Bridge).

Das Sofa (Maximilian Straße 8): At this nightclub, dancing will start at 10 pm and until 11 pm, admission is free. After 11 pm, entrance will cost you 6 euros. Music will be a colorful mix from the 80’s, 90’s, 00’s with party classics and chart hits. Manu Pop will be providing the music.

After Job Party: From 8pm, one can Dance into May at the Ameron Hotel Königshof (Adenaueralle 9). DJs and various live acts in the different rooms and on the Rhine terrace will add to the party mood.

Tanzhaus Bonn: “Tanz in den Mai” begins in the Tanzhaus Bonn (Gartenstraße 102) at 8:30 pm.

Klangstation Bad Godesberg: From 10 pm, Patrick & Oli will present music made for dancing at the Klangstation in Bad Godesberg (Moltkestraße 43). It won’t only be music, video projectors will offer visual entertainment as well.

On the Godesburg: An Ü-30 Party (for those over the age of 30) will begin at 9 pm. The Godesburg is located at Auf dem Godesberg 5.

Kassalla concert in Siegburg: Kasalla plays at 8 pm in the Rhein-Sieg-Halle in Siegburg. Their concert ends before midnight, and DJ Ronaldo takes over. He’s also there from 3 pm in the foreyard, creating a good mood for the grill and beer party. Concert goers are allowed inside at 5 pm. Admission costs 27.50 euros.

Meckenheim dances into May: The club Rot-Weiß-Merl, a Merl carnival club and the village of Merl have organized a dance at the village square. It begins at 5pm with May singing at the Merl Cathedral and then DJ Mütze leads the celebrations.

Rheinbach dances into May: Music from DJ Jnom in the Limoon Club (Vor dem Voigstor 1) beginning at 10 pm. Admission is free, but only open to those 21 years of age or older. The 40-euro consumption card is available for 30 euros.
