Mehlem Rhine path Cyclist follows and photographs female jogger

Bonn · The 23-year-old woman was jogging along the Rhine in Mehlem on Wednesday afternoon. The police are investigating.

It was supposed to be a normal jog late on Wednesday afternoon. At some point a 23-year-old woman realised that a cyclist had been behind her for a long time as she went down the banks of the Rhine at Mehlem. As she reached the Weinhäuschen restaurant, she offered to let him by. The man declined and continued to follow her and take photos.

This is how the mother of the jogger describes the events on Facebook. She said despite being asked, the cyclist refused to delete the photos. The young woman then took photos herself and threatened to call the police. “Thank goodness I was waiting in my car to collect my daughter at the Mehlem ferry,” said the mother. They then followed the man together but lost him and finally called the police.

When asked, the police said they would look into the matter as there was suspicion of a crime. “Even though there is no indication of a physical attack, the woman still felt threatened,” explains Frank Piontek from the police press office. He said there had been no other incidents. Piontek recommended immediately calling the police in such a situation. “And it’s also good to make it public, that is to ask passersby for help.” Original text: es. Translated by Kate Carey.
