New building project Construction begins on Motel One

Bonn · An old office building at the Berliner Freiheit intersection in Bonn has been torn down and a new Motel One will take its place. Completion is expected in the middle of 2018; the hotel will offer 217 rooms.

Demolition of an old office building has just been completed and construction equipment is already rolling in, including a 40-meter crane. Where a 70’s building complex stood only a few weeks ago, a new Motel One is expected to offer 217 rooms by the middle of 2018. Until then, residents and businesses in the area must put up with lots of noise and dust.

When it comes to housing tourists who want to explore the city, the new hotel together with the Hilton, just 100 meters away, will be well-placed at the corner of Berliner Freiheit and Sandkaule. The Beethovenhaus is just a five minute walk away, the opera house is nearly opposite and the city center is just a stone’s throw away. “The good infrastructure, the location and traffic connections are the reasons for choosing this location,” said Mike Böhme from Aspira Real Estate, which is responsible for the demolition and new construction for the Munich project developer Hirmer Real Esate.

The new Motel One is expected to be a real eye-catcher. The German chain promotes a motto, “A lot of design for little money.” Other Motel One hotels are in Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne. A night in one of the two Cologne hotels costs 70 euros per person, without breakfast.

Official construction on the hotel is scheduled to start this week. “If the weather permits, it will begin already on Friday,” said Böhme. “Completion is scheduled for the second quarter of next year,” he added. The area of the hotel will total 9,344 square meters and it will have 217 guest rooms. The building was planned by the Munich architect bureau of Illig, Bauer and Associates. Construction is estimated at 7.2 million euros. (Orig. text: Dennis Sennekamp)
