IBIS expansion City retracts initial proposal

BAD GODESBERG · In a new turn of events, the city administration has retracted its initial support for an IBIS expansion, saying further clarification is needed. It remains unclear whether or not Independent Bonn International School (IBIS) will be allowed to pursue expansion plans.

The city had given a green signal to the school but is now reconsidering. In a statement to General Anzeiger, the city press office explained that “new circumstances have become known, which urgently require further clarification of the facts, and the results of this must be included in weighing out the decision process.” The city did not want to comment on exactly what those circumstances were while the information were being examined.

It also could not say when a final decision would be made on whether the city administration would support an expansion. Only so much was offered: “The necessary steps for further clarification of the facts have been initiated.” At IBIS, no further information was available because the school itself had not been informed about this official step. “Unfortunately, I can’t comment on that because we have not received any information about it whatsoever,” said Irene Bolik, IBIS School Director. She hopes that this week they will receive information about this decision and the reasons behind it.

Currently, IBIS, located on the Heiderhof is a primary school and wanted to expand its offer to include secondary schooling. As previously reported, the Bonn school committee had turned down the request, and the main committee had postponed a decision. (Orig. text: jab)
