Bonn. Anyone ever wanted to go back in time? For the new season of the German crime series "Babylon Berlin", many extras are needed. A casting will be taking place this weekend at the Brückenforum in Beuel.
Executioners, gangsters and priests wanted: The German historical crime series "Babylon Berlin" continues - and lots of extras will soon be needed for filming in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). As the casting agency Eick announced on Monday, filming in Cologne, Bonn, Düren, Solingen and Krefeld is planned for the spring of 2019. These scenes will be used for the third season of the TV series, which is set in the period of the Weimar Republic. In addition to the main actors, 500 extras and 40 actors with minor roles will be needed in front of the camera.
The casting call for the extras is this coming Saturday, January 19, between 12 and 4pm in the Brückenforum in Beuel (Friedrich-Breuer-Str. 17, 53225 Bonn-Beuel). Those who would like to try out do not have to register in advance, they can simply stop by during those hours.
The roles are quite diverse. "We are looking for people from NRW to play gangsters, policemen, passers-by, executioners, pub guests, prison guards, high-ranking military officers and politicians," explained agency head Gregor Weber. They also need a waiter, priest and carpenter. In addition, 50 women are needed to play prison inmates. Weber explained that they are looking for all kinds of people, including those with “normal faces and bodies” but also amputees who may be without an arm or leg.
The first two seasons of "Babylon Berlin" had an audience of several million. The third season will be shown again on Sky and later on the German network ARD. Once again, a book by Volker Kutscher serves as the basis. In the new story line, commissioner Gereon Rath (Volker Bruch) investigates a film set where a famous actress died. The filming locations are in Berlin, Potsdam-Babelsberg and NRW.
