Eurowings strike Cancellations at Cologne/Bonn airport

MÖRFELDEN-WALLDORF/DÜSSELDORF · Passengers are urged to check their flight status before heading to the airport today. The union representing cabin crew, UFO has called for Eurowings and Germanwings to strike.

Passengers of Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings will face flight cancellations and delays all throughout Thursday. The union representing cabin crew, UFO has also called for Germanwings cabin personnel to strike in Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Cologne, Dortmund, Hannover, Stuttgart and Berlin.

The press office of Cologne/Bonn airport announced on Wednesday evening: "Probably the majority of flights will be cancelled by the airline as a precaution." Long-haul flights are not affected. On Thursday, 121 Eurowings flights are on the timetable (61 departures and 60 arrivals).

Those who are traveling are asked to check their flight status in advance at www.eurowings.com. The airport has also set up a hotline at (02203) 40 4000. All of the latest information can be found on their website in English.

The strike affects nearly the entire European network of Eurowings, threatening cancellations and delays throughout. Some European-wide flights were still expected to be offered, however. Eurowings has offered passengers a transfer or cancellation of their flights without penalties.

Cabin crew are striking over salaries and working conditions. In the evening, UFO had extended its strike to larger sister company Germanwings, declaring that talks concerning part-time wages there had also failed. A strike at Eurowings alone would possibly have remained without large consequence because UFO has fewer organized flight attendants there.
