E-cars Bonn to have 25 charging stations in 2019

BONN · The city presented its plans to promote the use of electrically powered vehicles. In the coming year, the number of charging stations will increase significantly.

The Bonn Stadtwerke (City public works) will install 25 electric charging stations by 2019, distributed through all parts of the city. In a meeting of the environmental committee, local politicians learned that the first two locations at Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz and Europastraße have already been completed.

At some locations, several facilities including a bike rental system, a charging station, a car-sharing station and a public transport stop will be bundled together. This year, eight additional locations will get charging stations for electric vehicles: in Poppelsdorf on the corner of Clemens-August-Straße / Rudolf Stöcker Weg, in Duisdorf on Rochusstraße 176-178, in Kessenich on the corner Hausdorff- / Pützstraße, in Bad Godesberg on Moltkestraße and on Ahrstraße at the Deutsches Museum, in Bonn-Gronau on Kurt-Schumacher-Straße, in Beuel on Rathausstraße and in Auerberg on Kölnstraße opposite the Nordfriedhof (North Cemetery).

In the coming year, Bonn residents should have seven more charging station locations at their disposal: in Endenich at Magdalenenplatz, in Brüser Berg on the corner of Celsiusstraße / Borsigallee, in Bad Godesberg Am Kurpark and on Siegfriedstraße and Mainzerstraße, in Beuel on Kreuzstraße and Friedrich-Breuer-Straße, in Dransdorf on the corner of Vorgebirgsbahnweg / Grootestraße and in Vilich on the Siegburgerstraße / Maria-Montessori-Allee.

The network is to be completed in 2019 with eight additional charging stations: in the Altdstadt at the Frankenbad pool, corner of Vorgebirgsstraße 32, in the inner city at the corner of Stiftsplatz / Welschnonnenstraße and at Kaiserplatz / Am Neutor, in Lengsdorf on Hauptstraße 10a, in Friesdorf on the corner of Margaretenstraße / Frankengraben, in Tannenbusch on Paulusplatz and in Auerberg on Warschauer and Prager Straße.

Standardized plug-ins

Criteria for selection of the sites were an even distribution in the urban area, good reach and visibility as well as the available network capacity. All columns would be equipped for standardized plug connections (Type2 / Combo2). The release for the electric current can be activated using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) cards or a smartphone with a QR code on the charging column.

After the sites are up and running, they will be visible on an internet site where one can easily find their location in the city. Their design will correspond to the prototype already installed at Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz. Members of the committee also discussed other possible locations for loading stations such as public parking garages and semi-public areas.
