Movies and television Bonn proves a popular location for filming

BONN · 96 days and 58 productions: Bonn’s city administration released figures about movie and television productions shot on location in Bonn, indicating that the city on the Rhine was a choice spot once again in 2016.

Bonn proved to be a popular filming location again in 2016. Altogether, 58 different productions were shot on location in Bonn over 96 days. Scenes for the action film “Out of Control” were filmed in spring at the park in the Rheinaue. Actors included Karl Urban (“Lord of the Rings”, “Star Trek”) and Pasquale Aleardi (“Head Full of Honey”). In the film, an actress and her ex-fiancé are trying to avert a cyber-attack aimed at the Berlin Film Festival.

Both the Rheinaue and Kennedyallee were the locations for scenes from “55 Steps.” Two-time Oscar winner Hillary Swank plays one of the starring roles in that film, which is directed by Oscar recipient Billie August. The film is based on a true story about Eleanore Riese, who was admitted to the psychiatric ward of St. Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco and resisted some of the treatment methods. The film is expected to open in Cologne in summer.

Sequences for a German family comedy “Schatz, nimm Du sie!” (Honey, you take her!) were shot in the cafeteria of Deutsche Welle. The comedy is expected to be in theaters on February 16. A television film for German network ZDF, “Was ich von dir weiß” (What I know about you) was shot in the Albert Schweitzer animal shelter and the RTL television series “Alarm für Cobra 11” (Alarm for Cobra 11) filmed on location four times in Bonn, including at the state courthouse. A ZDF crime series “Soko Köln” filmed at the Kameha Hotel and the mini golf facility on Marienforster Promenade. German networks ARD and Sat 1 also shot on location in Bonn, as did regional network WDR.
