Number of cases has risen Bonn police warn of fake Microsoft phone calls

Bonn · Bonn police are again warning of fraudulent phone calls from alleged Microsoft employees because the number of incidents has risen in recent weeks.

Many cases of fake phone calls from Microsoft have been reported in Bonn in recent weeks. Police are therefore warning of telephone fraudsters, who want to gain access to personal data and then bank accounts through the calls. Both young and old people have already become victims of the scam, according to police spokesman Robert Scholten.

The fraudsters want to make the victims believe that there is malware on their computers that the users should remove themselves, explains Scholten. Telephone instructions ask them to open certain pages and to type in appropriate codes. This enables callers to access TAN numbers and passwords. “Microsoft will never call!” said the spokesman. Therefore do not follow instructions from alleged Microsoft callers and instead alert the police.
