Bonn. The sun is out and it’s a great time to visit Bonn’s ice-cream parlours. Here are some you should put on your list.
The long queues that form outside the tiny shop on Maxstraße on a sunny day are the give away: Eislabor offers particularly delicious ice cream. Bonners like the unusual flavours made from fresh ingredients so much that the makers opened a second shop on Hermannstraße in Beuel in spring 2014.
Maxstraße 16 and Friedrich-Breuer-Straße 16 in Bonn. Open Monday to Saturday 11am-7pm and Sundays and public holidays noon to 7pm.
2 Duisdorfer Eisdiele Pra
If there were a list of the most unattractive outdoor dining options in Bonn, the Duidorfer Eisdiele Pra would be up there. It has a few tables and chairs on the pavement directly on the loud and busy Rochusstraße. But they are nearly always full, because the ice-cream at this typical Italian family business is simply melt-in-the-mouth delicious.
Rochusstraße 138, Bonn, Monday to Saturday from 9am to 10pm and Sundays from noon to 10pm.
3 Eiscafe Morello
Not far from Pra is Eiscafe Morello with a diverse range of ice cream creations. The ice cream is homemade and those wanting something warmer can also get a good coffee here.
Rochusstraße 236, Bonn, Monday to Saturday from 9am to 10pm and Sundays from noon to 10pm.
Not exactly ice-cream, but the somewhat more slimming varieties of frozen yoghurt are still delicious. In this self-service parlour, the ice-cream lover can choose from six ever-changing sorts of frozen yoghurt and then add fruit, chocolate sprinkles and various other toppings. Payment is by weight.
Friedensplatz 6, Bonn, Monday to Thursday 11am to 9pm, Friday and Saturday 11am to 10pm and Sunday from noon to 8pm. The shop stays open longer when the weather is good.
5 Gelateria Roma
Gelateria Roma is located in the aptly named Römerstraße. Enjoy the Dolce Vita with a choice of over 24 flavours of ice cream and more than 20 ice cream specialities as well as Italian coffee.
Near the Roman baths, Römerstraße 224, Bonn. February to April and September and October from noon to 8pm. May to August from 11am to 9pm.
6 Eiscafe Olivotti
There is something new to enjoy every week at Eiscafe Olivotti as alongside the classic flavours are weekly specials. Vegans also have a large choice of flavours here.
Friedrich-Breuer-Straße, Bonn. Open Thursdays to Tuesdays between 9am and 10pm.
7 Eiscafe Veronesi Bornheim
This cafe has been serving homemade Italian ice cream specialties in Bornheim for 45 years. There is also an ordering service: customers can order by fax and then collect their ice-cream without needing to wait.
Königstraße 45, Bornheim. Monday to Saturday from 10am to 10pm. Sunday and public holidays from 11am to 10pm.
8 Eiscafe Etna
Opened by Longo Gino in 1984, the Salatin family has been running Eiscafe Etna since 1997. Breakfast, waffles, cakes and, of course, ice cream are all on offer.
Paulusplatz 8, Bonn-Tannenbusch and Obere Wilhelmstraße 1A. Open for ice cream between 10.30am and 8.20pm.
You don’t need to go to Italy for a good ice-cream - Kessenich will do. Eiscafe Heisskalt offers various ice cream specialities and cocktails.
Haussdorffstraße 185, Bonn-Kessenich. Monday to Saturday 10am to 8pm, Sundays and public holidays noon to 8pm.
10 Gelateria italiana
Gelateria italiana attracts customers in summer with up to 25 various sorts of ice cream. Alongside the classics are exotic flavours such as sesame ice cream.
Clemens-August-Straße 1, Bonn. Daily between 10am and 10pm from start of March to start of October.
11 La Luna
La Luna is part of a chain of more than 50 ice cream parlours. Ice cream consumers in NRW, Niedersachsen, Hamburg, Sachsen, Hessen, Schleswig-Holstein, Berlin and abroad are persuaded by the concept.
Konrad-Adenauer-Platz 26-28, Bonn-Beuel. In summer daily from 9am to 10pm. In winter daily from 9am to 8pm.
You can often stand in a 50 metre queue at ice cafe Sabatella. But visitors agree: the ice cream is worth the wait. Anticipation known as the greatest pleasure!
Kölnstraße 158a, Sankt Augustin. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 11am to 9.30pm.
13 Das Eiswerk
Christopher Nolden opened his ice cream parlour in 2016 only two years after attending an ice cream school. Visitors can watch the preparation of the ice cream and there are no additives and only natural ingredients. And there is Fair-trade coffee.
Weiherstraße 8, Rheinbach. Monday to Thursday 10am to 8pm, Friday and Saturday 10am to 9pm and Sunday noon to 8pm.
14 Das Eis-Atelier
Ice cream at a buffet, as a party surprise, for catering or simply to eat now. The Eis Atelier offers the entire range and there are sorbets as well as ice cream.
Rheinpromenade 6, Bad Honnef. Tuesdays to Fridays from noon to 6pm, Saturday from 11am to 6pm and Sundays from 10am to 6pm.
15 Eiscafe San Marco
Pizza or ice cream? A difficult choice so why not try both at San Marco: pizzeria and ice cream parlour under one roof.
Alte Bahnhofstraße 36, Bad Godesberg. Monday to Saturday 10am to 10pm. Sunday 11am to 10pm.
This is a list of ice cream parlours in Bonn and the region that does not purport to be complete and was not written using objective criteria. There is also no particular ranking. The order of the list is random and the ice cream parlours were subjectively selected.
