Blackouts due to medium voltage glitches Bonn-Mehlem and Lannesdorf have no power for two hours

MEHLEM · Large areas of Bonn-Mehlem, Lannesdorf and Heiderhof had no electricity on Sunday evening. The reason: Two medium voltage glitches.

A lot of people in Bonn had no light, no heat or any other electricity. Large areas of Mehlem and Lannesdorf were affected by a power cut around 7.20pm, as Veronika John, spokesperson of the Stadtwerke Bonn, explained. Heiderhof was also partly affected. Twitter users reported flickering lights because of electricity deviations.

The reason for the blackouts were two medium voltage glitches. The Stadtwerke sent a team of experts out after the power cuts occurred to fix the damage. Around 9pm the Heiderhof area got the electricity back, according to John. Just a short time later, the other parts of the city which were affected were „lit“ again: In Mehlem and Lannesdorf the electricity was back at 9.15pm, said the spokesperson.

It is not yet clear what caused the glitches exactly. The cause is currently being investigated, said John. (Original text: GA, Translation: Mareike Graepel)
