Tweets cause confusion Bonn’s Lord Mayor now on Twitter

Bonn · Ashok Sridharan, Bonn’s Lord Mayor, now has a Twitter account. On that he caused some confusion though, at first. Users were speculating if the profile might be a fake account. It is not.

Since Tuesday night, Bonn’s Lord Mayor has a Twitter profile - and promptly caused some confusion. As a first message introducing himself in the social network, he did not - as would be usual - greet his followers but tweeted: „We have to save energy! The light in the office is switched off.“

The reactions followed quickly, some reactions of users were full of astonishment and scepticism. „Is that really you?“ one asked. „You never know…“ said somebody else. Even the pass office of the city council was not sure when approached by reporters of the General-Anzeiger if the profile was real or not. But then, the confirmation: Yes, it is the Lord Mayor himself who sends those messages.

Sridharan is currently away for a health treatment, which probably meant he had more time and considered the moment the perfect timing to start a Twitter career. He let his followers know that he will take part in Bonn’s Night Run and that his favourite colour is red. He himself confirmed that the profile is not a fake and sent the following tweet: „Yes, I am on Twitter since yesterday and will report actively at the end of the month.“

In a conversation with the General-Anzeiger Sridharan emphasised that Twitter means new opportunities to him to promote the initiate „Digital Bonn“. So far he was only on Facebook, but he wants to connect to more people on Twitter. A plan that seems to be working. Within a few hours he had 114 followers already. The initial confusion seems to be sorted.
