Is it the missing Juliana M? Body of woman found in woods near Wolperath

Neunkirchen-Seelscheid · The police found a woman’s body in woods near the Wolperath area of Neunkirchen-Seelscheid on Sunday. Is it the missing Juliana M?

The police were called out to Hennefer Straße (L352) between Wolperath and Remschoss at around 2pm on Sunday afternoon. A witness had discovered a woman’s body in a part of the woods towards the Wahnbach valley dam.

Police spokesman Burhardt Richt said it was still not clear whether the woman had died accidentally, by suicide or at the hands of someone else. On Monday morning, the police were unable to give any further details on the identity or cause of death. However, there were some indications the woman could be the missing Juliana M from Remschoss. She has been missing since June. She is the 64-year-old wife of Andreas M, a pop singer from Neunkirchen-Seelschied.

According to her husband, his wife left the house on 15 June and did not return. Police used helicopters and officers to search the wooded areas around the Wahnbach valley dam several times, most recently at the end of July.

Cause of death still unclear

The police spokesman explained on Sunday evening that the identity could first be determined after a detailed autopsy. The body had apparently been lying in the inaccessible part of the wood for several weeks or even months. It was only found at all because on Sunday afternoon, walkers were underway in the remote woodland with their dog. When the dog retreated a few hundred metres into the wood and behaved oddly, the owners went to have a look and discovered the human body. They immediately informed the police.

The entire area was then closed and the police records department began their work. The fire brigade was also called out to give technical help. They lit the location for the officers collecting evidence.

Location deep in woods

The location is so deep in the woods, around two kilometres from Hennefer Straße, the main road 352 between Wolperath and Remschoss towards Wahnbachtalstraße, that not many walkers pass it. If it really is the missing woman from Remschoss, the police spokesman said the distance from her home was around one to two kilometres.

As the circumstances of death are still completely unclear, the police are currently treating it as a missing persons case. Officers from the Siegburg police district are therefore in charge. If the autopsy shows evidence of a crime causing death, a murder commission would be formed at the Bonn police headquarters.

At the end of July, witnesses had come forward to report a lifeless body at the Wahnbach valley dam. There was a large-scale operation at the time with helicopters, boats and divers. However, no one was found and the search was halted. Since then there had been no developments in June’s missing person case.
