Bad Godesberg · Even if most of the attendees didn’t come dressed in their favorite fantasy wear, they brought plenty of imagination and a sense of fun to the FeenCon event at the Stadhalle this weekend.

One definitely needed a little bit of imagination. And an enjoyment of game playing. The Bad Godesberg Stadthalle was swarming with wizards and warriors, knights and rogues, demon hunters and zombie victims. Even if it didn’t appear like that at first glance. People were sitting at various tables, playing games and cards, with visions in their heads. It was the 27th FeenCon, a role-playing convention (the word “Feen” in German meaning “Fairies” in English).

“The game player rounds are the centerpiece of this event,” said organizer Jörg Spitzensteder. He said it was always a nice opportunity for people to try out new game formats and meet others because normally, people meet with the same groups of gaming friends.

Around 2,500 visitors came to the event at the Stadthalle over the weekend, many of them being regular attendees. Most of them had praise for the family-like environment and good mood overall. In the hall, game exhibitors and publishers had set up stalls, and people could play games there. A tent was also set up outside where more people could gather.

For those who needed a little movement, they could try some belly-dancing or contact juggling or jugger, an unusual sport somewhere between rugby and fencing. Jugger is gaining in popularity in Bonn and the region.

While some came in historical garb, the typical fantasy costumes seen at other conventions were not to be found at FeenCon. Some found this unfortunate, “I find it to be a bit of a shame,” said Carsten Ehrhardt, alias “Captain Black.” On the other hand, the pirate admits that the mood was extraordinary at FeenCon. Relaxed, comfortable and very social.
