“Ride of Silence” Bike tour to remember accident victims in Bonn

Bonn · On Wednesday, 16 May, a bike tour will start at Münsterplatz to remember cyclists who have had an accident and or been killed in Bonn. The “Ride of Silence” campaign is taking place worldwide.

The ADFC Bonn/Rhine-Sieg will remember those cyclists injured and killed in the region with a “Ride of Silence” this Wednesday, 16 May. Cyclists from Bonn and the Rhine-Sieg district will be taking part in the worldwide campaign, which takes place on the third Wednesday in May, for the second time.

In Bonn, the demonstration ride will go from Münsterplatz to Reuterstraße and into Weststadt to the Victoria Bridge, where cyclists were most recently killed or seriously injured. The 15 kilometre ride then heads back to Münsterplatz. Participants should wear white clothing and complete the tour in silence.

Three cyclists were killed in Bonn and the Rhine-Sieg district in 2017, six less than in 2016. However, the number of seriously injured cyclists in Bonn and the Rhine-Sieg district rose to 168, 21 more than in the previous year. According to the ADFC, accidents while turning are a major problem.
