Fronhofer Galeria in Bad Godesberg Benetton is also bailing out

Bad Godesberg · Another business is leaving the Fronhofer Galeria. Benetton says it will not be re-opening at the Bad Godesberg shopping center.

A special right of termination allows Benetton to leave the Fronhofer Galeria and it exercised this right, clearing out a few days ago. The fact that the shopping center has been closed for so many months following the June 4 flooding has resulted in “a financial catastrophe” for the fashion store. They didn’t have a choice but to leave.

Benetton is not the only store that will not be there when the Fronhofer Galeria opens its doors again. And a date for an official re-opening is still not in sight. As reported, the two sisters who own “Mi parti” have cancelled the lease on their two retail spaces as well, one on each floor. After five months of sitting idle, it just wasn’t possible to continue.

An employee of Benetton also said that the long period of closure and uncertainty as to when they would be allowed to open again were what led them to leave. The Benetton worker said they had good contact to the Center Management and that there was a regular exchange of e-mail. However, the shops were first told they would be able to re-open in September; then it was pushed back to October and now it is nearly November.

A statement from Center Management reads, “Particularly for the ground floor and the first floor, the estimates made by the experts had to be repeatedly readjusted. With this in mind, Center Management couldn’t react immediately to some inquiries with reliable information.” It went on to say that repairs were being energetically carried out in cooperation with the fire department, property insurers, experts and specialist companies.
