Vehicles secured Apparent illegal car race halted in Bonn

Bonn · The police apparently stopped an illegal car race in Bonn on Monday evening. Two men competed in a duel through Bonn city centre in sports cars. The vehicles were secured.

Two sports cars came to the attention of a Bonn police civil patrol in the city centre on Monday evening. According to police, the two vehicles, a white Audi R8 Coupé (540 to 610 hp) and a white Maserati Levante (430 hp) drove through the 30 km zone “Am Hofgarten” at high speed and with loudly roaring engines around 8.20pm. Officers followed the vehicles, which accelerated again from the corner of Lennéstraße and then turned left onto Adenauerallee.

Before entering Koblenzer Tor, the two 40 and 41-year-old drivers are said to have put an uninvolved car driver in danger, said police on Tuesday. They then continued their drive via Belderberg, Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz, and Oxfordstraße to Bornheimer Straße. There they were stopped by police and taken out of circulation.

The Bonn public prosecutor’s office seized the two vehicles and the driving licences of the two drivers on suspicion of coercion, being a danger to road traffic and a prohibited vehicle race. The police investigation is continuing.

Police are asking witnesses who saw the two vehicles mentioned in Bonn city centre on Monday evening to call 0228 150.
