Police called to “Universität Markt” station Alarm caused by abandoned suitcase

BONN · Train traffic experienced some disruptions Monday evening between “Universitäts-Markt” and “Heussallee.” Police were brought in to deal with an unmanned bag.

"Bitte verlassen Sie sofort den U-Bahnbereich nach oben zur Straßenebene" - this is what passengers would have heard or seen posted at the underground station “Universitäts-Markt” on Monday evening. It was an instruction to leave the underground area immediately and head up to the street level.

Rail traffic was disrupted in that area between 8:05 and 8:20 p.m. Trains left the station and remained outside during that period.

Police say the reason for the disruption was an unmanned suitcase discovered at the station “Heussallee.” The area was closed off until police could get closer to the object. Spokesperson for the police, Robert Scholten said the bag was slightly open and there were clothes and bottles inside. This was confirmed quickly and the police could give an all clear, allowing traffic to get back to normal.
