Digital Hub Region Bonn A place for creative minds
Bonn · The Digital Hub Bonn Region opens its first location at the Bonner Bogen and hopes to bring together start-ups and local firms.
A lively opening party followed the first shareholders’ general meeting as The Digital Hub Region Bonn officially opened its first location on Monday evening. The “co-working room” on Rheinwerkallee at the Bonner Bogen offers 326.1 square metres of space with 50 workstations and two conference rooms. The party generated a lot of interest and the room was full of guests.
“There should be a hub in Bonn where innovative minds, science and capital can get together in an open atmosphere and exchange [ideas],” said chairman Markus Zink. As a hub for the digital economy, the centre wants to connect young entrepreneurs with local firms. Start-ups should get access to established companies, customers, partners and investors. The centre will allow start-ups to use services such as those for financial accounting. “After a lot of preparation and groundwork with lots of partners and companies, we are sending a signal that things can now really start,” said Hubertus Hille, chief executive officer of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Bonn/Rhine-Sieg and chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Digital Hub Region Bonn AG.
The AG has capital of three million euros for the next three years. The state of North Rhine Westphalia is supporting the enterprise with 1.5 million euros. NRW also supports hubs in Aachen, Düsseldorf, Essen, Cologne and Münster. The hub is being financed by more than forty companies, including Deutsche Post, Deutsche Telekom, Postbank, Sparkasse KölnBonn and medium-sized companies, as well as public institutions such as colleges.
