Lannesdorf Christmas market 90 metre long toboggan piste on Kirchberg

Lannesdorf · The Lannesdorf village committee is organising a winter spectacular on the second weekend in Advent. Key attractions will be a Christmas market and a toboggan piste on Kirchberg.

There will be a Christmas market again in Lannesdorf for the first time in nine years. For three days on the second weekend in Advent, from Friday 8 December to Sunday 10 December, the Lannesdorfers and others can look forward to a very special market. “The board of the village committee gave itself the task of reviving the Lannesdorf Christmas market on the occasion of the 1125 year anniversary of Lannesdorf and the 70 year anniversary of the village committee,” said Josef Kolb, head of the village committee. And this will happen in a very special way, as a toboggan piste set up on Kirchberg will take centre stage.

“Visitors large and small can then sledge along the 90 metre long piste on a rubber tyre, just like on a real snow piste,” says Kolb. “The piste is between four and five metres wide, around 90 metres long, with a height difference of around seven metres, giving a gradient of 7.8 per cent,” says Kolb. A lane, like those used by ski jumpers in summer, will be laid out across the entire width of the street from the start point at the church to the finish in front of Lannesdorfer Straße.

Artificial snow will be spread at the edges and in the exit zone and the piste will be edged with tape. Obstacles will be cushioned by straw bales and similar. The snow will be delivered by three lorries from the indoor ski slope in Neuss and then distributed with earth movers and shovels. “And those who want to, can also do down on skis,” explains Kolb, with a smile. The ski school from Bad Neuenahr will also be giving ski demonstrations.

Those on the village committee want to achieve a pre-Christmas atmosphere around the village square. There will be around ten to 15 stands, a children’s carousel and a mobile stage at the corner of Deutschherrenstraße and Drachenburgstraße. “We will hold an Advents party and possibly have a singalong afternoon on the Sunday,” says Kolb. “On the market square there will be typical Christmas goods on offer and, of course, Christmas baked goods. There will be glühwein and Father Christmas will surprise young visitors with sweets.

The village committee is counting on 1000 visitors a day. There will therefore be changed traffic conditions from Friday at 7am to Monday 11 December.

“We want to make the Christmas market an experience for the whole family,” says Jupp Verkoff from the board of the village committee. “We will generate income from the marketing of the stands. However, this will not cover the costs,” says Verhoff. “Besides sponsors, we are therefore relying on donations of money and goods. We can also issue donation receipts for them.”

The Christmas market on the Kirchberg and the surrounding streets opens on Friday 8 December at 4pm, on Saturday at 10am and is open on both days to 10pm. Opening times on the second Advent Sunday are 11am to 8pm.
