Bad Godesberg 50 firemen fight blaze

Bad Godesberg · The column of smoke was visible from afar on Wednesday afternoon, when the fire brigade was called to Alt-Godesberg.

Due to a blazing fire in an extension building and a double garage at the Marienforster Steinweg, several houses were temporarily covered in smoke, according to the fire brigade. About 50 firemen fought the flames.

„When we arrived, we had zero visibility“, explained officer-in-charge Heiko Basten at the site of the fire, located at the end of a cul-de-sac. The firemen of the municipal and the voluntary brigade first searched adjacent buildings for people. A senior and his caregiver were brought to safety by the rescue team. „Both had inhaled smoke gas and were treated by the emergency medical services“, said Basten.

The affected building used to be a residential property before, but has been used as a warehouse recently, according to neighbours. Apparently that could be the location where the fire broke out originally. The flames then flashed over to the roof of the garage. The firemen fought the blaze from several sides. However, they could not prevent total destruction of the buildings.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
