The city centre is rarely so lively as it was this weekend, with over a 100 stands, a diverse programme of stage shows and a relaxed and happy public strolling the streets.

There was something for everyone: while some tried the wide range of culinary delights on offer, others went shopping or watched the many artists who appeared on the stages in the Münsterplatz and the Marktplatz.

The band “Room Service” delighted the crowds on the Münsterplatz with cover versions of Status Quo and Creedence Clearwater Revival. The journalist and historian Martin Wein then presented his book “Bonn ist spitze!” (Bonn is great!) in which he gives 100 reasons why Bonn is a great place to live. Meanwhile, in the Marktplatz, a talent show was searching for the singing and dancing “Bonn-Stars 2016”.

Next, the “Voice Kids” contestant Noel (14) took to the stage and melted teenage hearts with an acoustic show. “The Bonn-Fest is something really special for me,” said the young television star. “Everything started for me with an appearance here two years ago and I was pretty nervous before the concert.”

The band Querbeat and Anna Maria Zimmermann also appeared over the weekend and the grand finale was a singalong with Guido Liske.

Visitors enjoyed the entertainment programme. “I came mainly for the live bands,” said Soraya Ali from Sankt Augustin. “But I also bought some jewellery.” Some visitors came simply to enjoy the atmosphere. “I just find it nice to walk through the city and look at everything,” said Christel Schmidt from Bonn.

“Luckily the weather played along,” said Maike Reinhardt from the City-Marketing association. “As it stayed relatively dry on all three days, we had very high visitor numbers.” Reinhardt said total visitor numbers were around 350,000.

Retailers were also pleased with the rush of visitors. According to the association, sales were up by an average of over 20 per cent on last year. Reinhardt said the fundraising marathon organized by the association was also a success, raising nearly Euro 1000.
