Knife attack at Bonn-West station 28-year-old man seriously injured in stabbing

Bonn · An argument between three men at Bonn-West station escalated into violence on Tuesday evening. One man was seriously injured and two others have been arrested.

A 28-year-old man was stabbed and seriously injured late on Tuesday evening at the Bonn-West train stop. Police said on Wednesday his condition is not critical.

At 10.15pm on Tuesday evening an argument at Thomastraße escalated into violence. Witnesses told police that three men were arguing at the train stop and started to become aggressive.

During the argument, one man drew a knife and stabbed the 28-year-old several times. Two men, aged between 18 and 20, have been arrested. A homicide squad is investigating.

According to information obtained by the General Anzeiger, the three men knew each other. The 28-year-old Moroccan and the two younger Syrians – all asylum seekers – had until recently lived in the same accommodation in Bonn.

There was no evidence of the attack at the scene on Wednesday after officers had gathered evidence overnight. The 28-year-old was treated by emergency doctors near the junction with Ellerstraße and then taken to hospital.

The man who carried out the stabbing and the third man fled the scene. However, they called the police a short time later and were arrested. Police said it is still unclear what caused the argument. Police spokesman Robert Schulter said police had witnesses who had observed the fracas.

The incident is similar to one that occurred last summer in the Hofgarten, where an argument over drugs between Albanian asylum seekers led to a stabbing. In that case, the suspects also fled the scene but then handed themselves in at a police station.
