Siegburg · While a young man waited near the Siegburg train station for his train, three men approached him to use his cell phone and then tried to steal from him.

A 22-year-old man was mugged on Monday evening at the Siegburg train station. He had been on the steps just across from the train station on Hochstraße, waiting for the next train. While he was smoking a cigarette, three men approached him. One of them asked for his cell phone, saying they needed to make an urgent phone call. The 22-year-old let him use the phone through the loudspeaker function but didn’t let the Smartphone out of his hands. After several failed attempts to make a connection, he put the cell phone back in his pants pocket.

After that, the thieves demanded money from the young man but he refused. They tried to pull the cell phone and his wallet from his pants pockets. The 22-year-old fought back and landed on the ground where the perpetrators then pulled off his jacket. He managed to get away and fled on foot to the Siegburg train station. The thieves did not follow him and they disappeared in an unknown direction. Besides his jacket, they also got a house key. Police say the value of the stolen goods was around 60 euro.

The victim described the robbers as 20 to 25-years-old, and the man who wanted to use the phone as around 1.6 meters with a sturdy build. He had short, dark hair and a goatee. He wore black sweatpants with gold stripes on the side, a black pullover and sports shoes. A second robber had a full beard and was between 1.75 - 1.8 meters tall. He wore blue jeans, white shoes and a white cap. The third is described as much taller with a thin build. He had no beard, wore gray clothing on top and a gray cap. According to the description from the victim, the men all had a North African appearance. They apparently approached him after coming from the direction of Ludwigstraße.
