„I wanted to do something completely different - and this project was a real stroke of luck“, says restaurateur Sven Trautwein. He decided to do up the former wine house at the wine tavern at the Drachenfels. Trautwein used to run „Felder’s“ in Sieburg for 15 years as well as the museum’s café at the market square in Siegburg for three years.

The 43-year-old describes the former wine house at the wine tavern at the Drachenfels, between Haus Kuckstein and the castle Drachenburg as a „stroke of luck“. Trautwein and his team want to wake the popular location from it’s 2sleeping beauty“ state, in a way.

New name: „Felder’s at the Wine Tavern“ (Felder's am Winzerhäuschen). A gentle modernising of the interior included the removal of the stuffed animals, the dark red multi-purpose-hall-style seats and the green carpet - now a comfy lounge-like room with hardwood floors, blue-grey walls and white ceilings create a country house atmosphere, and means up to 90 people can be comfortably accommodated. The terrace with a panoramic view over the Rhine valley has space for 100 guests.

The menu includes Felder’s Burger with beef, camembert, cranberries, chips and sauce (12.80 Euro), two potato halves with pear, bacon and goat’s cheese (9.80 Euro), a salad called „Bauerngedeck“ with wedges, bacon, fired egg, gouda cheese and honey mustard dressing (11.80 Euro), the vegetarian taste flambeé with courgette, peppers, feta cheese and mushrooms (8.50 Euro) or fish & chips with sweet potato, mushy peas and tartare sauce for 13.20 Euro.

On Sundays between 10am and 1pm, there is a breakfast buffet (14.90 Euro per person).

Gaffel Kölsch is served on draught (0.2l for 1.60 Euro) as well as König Pilsener (0.3l for 2.40 Euro). Bottled beers include Andechser Weißbier and Export Dunkel (0.5l for 3.80 Euro each) as well as Thomas König Zwickl Kellerbier (0.33l for 3.20 Euro).

Five open wines are on offer (0.2l from 4.60 Euro), like the Pinot Gris from Genheimer Kiltz (Nahe) and the Gelber Muskateller from the Pieper vineyard (Königswinter), each for 4.90 Euro.

Ten bottled wines include gems like the Muskattrollinger Rosé from the Siegloch Winnenden vineyard (22 Euro).
