The English theater group Bonn Players have been busily rehearsing for their November production, “Neighbourhood Watch.” When the children have left Independent Bonn International School (IBIS) for the day, the group uses school space to practice in the evenings.

Their first show will premiere on November 15 and run through November 19. Carrying a political theme, the story comes from Alan Ayckbourn, a well-known contemporary drama writer. It’s about a brother and sister who move into a middle-class suburb, and proceed to set up a neighbourhood watch group.

There have been petty crimes in the social housing nearby and they set up the watch group to keep the neighbourhood safe. Although the siblings start the group with good intentions, the whole thing spins out of control. Ayckbourn uses comedy and drama to illustrate prejudice and show how we fear those who are different than ourselves. “The piece addresses topics that are totally relevant today,” says director Chris Wilde.

Kathleen Schroers, who plays the sister, said, “We had a lot of fun at the rehearsals and I think the audience will also have lots of fun.” Most of the actors and actresses have been with the theater troupe for many years and they bring valuable experience.

Members of Bonn Players come from Scotland, Ireland, the U.S. and Kenya, to name just a few countries. Seats can be reserved online at: www.bonnplayers.de All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at the Stiftstheater Augustinium in Bonn, Römerstraße 118. Tickets cost 15 euro for adults and 10 euro for students. Enjoy the show! (Orig text: Tobias Rinn/ck)
