Cologne/Bonn Airport “Easy Security” for quicker, more pleasant security processing

COLOGNE/BONN AIRPORT · A new security system promises to make the airport experience less stressful. It’s being tested in a pilot project at Cologne/Bonn Airport.

“Easy Security” is the name of a new security system being tested out at Cologne/Bonn Airport beginning this week. A full test run will take place on Thursday in Terminal 1. The concept of the new system is to make security processing easier, more efficient and pleasant while maintaining high security standards.

Up to five people will be able to load their belongings into trays on the conveyor belt at one time, all at their own pace. Veteran flyers who complete the process quickly can pass up those who need more time to empty out their pockets or open up their bag. What it means is that no passenger is slowed down or hindered by other passengers who take longer to organize themselves. Passengers can move at their own pace to the scanner after loading their things in the trays. And the body scanner allows people to keep their arms at their sides instead of having to raise them above their heads.

Michael Garven is the chief executive at the airport and he says this is a “quantum leap forward.” The security process is the most stressful part of an airport experience and this is designed to take away some of that stress. “Easy Security” offers a bright area with lots of space and visibility, making it a more comfortable experience for passengers.

Authorities say that security is still the highest priority. No details were given about the costs of the new system but they said the testing would reflect the benefits of it. Already other airports have expressed interest about the new system. (Orig. text: Nadine Quadt)
